DESCRIPTION: French industrial "Ships Stern" clock by Guilmet, signed 8 days, time and strike, movement mounted in a silvered and gilt case representing a ships quarter deck, the captain rocking back and forth at the wheel as the upper part of the compound pendulum, with knife edge suspension, deck railing with gimbaled lamps, and a sailor coiling rope below, gilt Roman numeral dial with blued steel hands, all on a black slate base with gilt feet, c1885
CONDITION: Case good but dirty and with major losses to finish, slate base dull and with minor chips, dial refinished, hands replaced and with oxidation, post at right end of railing broken from deck, missing upper section with gimbaled lamp, screw for case back replaced with a wood screw, movement ticks and strikes, gong a replacement and not attached to case bottom, wooden case bottom loose.
